TruHemp was born from recognizing this growing demand for eco-friendly options and the lack of convenient access to them.
Our Story
As an avid traveler and nature enthusiast, I've roamed the breathtaking landscapes of India and Nepal, venturing deep into the heart of the Himalayas. Amidst these majestic peaks, I stumbled upon a hidden gem: Hemp intricately woven into the fabric of local communities' lives.
Witnessing firsthand the meticulous craftsmanship and sustainable practices of these indigenous artisans, my curiosity was piqued. Delving deeper into the wonders of hemp, I uncovered a world of untapped potential. From nourishing food to sturdy shelter, from durable clothing to healing medicine, hemp proved to be a versatile marvel, enriching lives for generations.
Inspired by the wisdom of these Himalayan communities and fueled by a passion for sustainability, TruHemp was born.

Why the Hemp Not?
-
Breathable & insulating
Hemp fabric is highly breathable, meaning that it allows air to flow through it easily, which can help to regulate body temperature and keep you comfortable in warm or cool weather.
-
Highly durable & soft on skin
Hemp fibers are strong and resistant to wear and tear, its tensile strength is up to eight times that of cotton. Hemp fabric is able to withstand the wear and tear of everyday use and is resistant to stretching and fading.
-
Resistant to UV light
Hemp is the most resistant natural fibre to ultraviolet light, offering protection from the sun’s harmful rays.
-
Biodegradable
Hemp fabric is biodegradable, meaning that it can break down naturally over time into smaller, organic compounds.
-
Naturally moisture wicking & odour resistant
Hemp can absorb up to 20% of it’s own weight while still feeling dry to the touch. This is important for fabrics in contact with our skin, as perspiration is quickly absorbed and released.
-
Naturally antibacterial & antifungal
Researchers have identified hemp's potent activity against specific bacteria and fungal strains, as well possessing a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. Hemp makes for healthier clothing.
-
Retains its shape & won't shrink
Hemp fibers are naturally strong and durable, which allows the fabric to hold its shape over time even after multiple washings or wearings. Hemp fabric is able to maintain its shape due to its high tensile strength, which means that it can withstand a lot of stress without stretching or tearing.
-
No pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.
Hemp doesn’t require pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers to grow. Hemp plants are natural pest repellents that deter insects and repel mites, fungi and bacteria. Hemp is also a natural weed suppressant, naturally out-competing and shading-out the weeds in its environment.
-
Easy wash & care
It is a natural fiber that is resistant to fading and wrinkling, which means that it can be washed and dried without losing its shape or color. Hemp fabric can be machine washed and dried on a regular basis, but it is important to follow the care instructions provided by the manufacturer or on the garment itself.
-
Replenishes the soil
Hemp rehabilitates and enriches soil with nitrogen and oxygen, restores pH levels and combats erosion. Hemp’s deep penetrating root system also detoxifies the soil by removing harmful chemicals and pollutants in a natural process called phytoremediation.
-
Absorbs carbon dioxide
Hemp is unmatched in its ability to sequester (absorb and trap) carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. Industrial hemp has been shown to absorb more CO2 per hectare than any forest or commercial crop.
-
Low water use
Hemp plants have a deep root system that helps them to access water and nutrients from the soil, which means that they are able to thrive in dry or drought-prone conditions. It consumes about one-fifth water used by cotton for the same level of production.
